Upcoming Animated Movies 2021

Most weekends there is a good animated movie at the theater to see and sometimes a great one! Enjoy these upcoming animation movies 2021 and 2022.

Since COVID big studios have been experimenting with direct to streaming options tag-teamed with theatrical releases as the big screens start allowing customers back. This is likely a new combo trend that won’t be going away.

Below is a list of new movies animation for 2021.

Animation fans have been waiting patiently for SpongeBob, The Rise of Gru, Raya and the Last Dragon, Rumble, and more. There is no shortage of new animated movies for 2021 and beyond. View the most anticipated movies and latest animated movies lists below.

New Animation News and Updates

Studio Ghibli just announced its schedule for 2021 Ghibli Fest. Watch the teaser video and see the schedule for a list of movies and dates.

Two films just moved up the 2021 release schedule, Boss Baby 2 moves up to July 2 and Clifford moves up to September 17. The Loud House also received a release date of of August 20.

Netflix bought the global rights to Sony’s new animated movie Vivo. The Netflix release date is still undetermined. This is the third animated movie Netflix has purchased rights to from Sony behind The Mitchell’s vs The Machines and Wish Dragon.

Minions: The Rise of Gru is now bumped to July 1, 2022. It is sad to see The Rise of Gru get pushed back again and again but Illumination needs a big win with this film and they are betting on summer 2022.

Disney acquired Blue Sky Studios will be shutting its doors and canceling the upcoming film Nimona. Disney now owns the popular bird cartoon franchise, Rio.

Pixar’s Luca

Sony hands over Connected to Netflix and changes the title back to the original name, The Mitchells vs. The Machines, which is not streaming on Netflix.
